Torrent2Exe

There are various BitTorrent clients out there you could get if you want to be able to download and run .torrent files. The free Torrent2exe application is among them. This is a user friendly application you can use to download and create torrents. The application has an ace up its sleeve: it provides easy access to a means of turning torrents into executables. The executable has the torrent integrated into it.

Torrent2exe provides support for 32-bit and 64-bit versions of the currently most popular Windows editions, mainly XP, Vista, and Windows 7. To install the BitTorrent client on any of these editions you will first have to download a lightweight executable onto your computer, run it, and click through a very simple setup wizard. If you have other BitTorrent clients installed on your machine, when you first run Torrent2exe, it will ask to be set as the default client.

At the top of Torrent2exe’s interface you will find the File, Tools and Help menus. In the large, white window beneath, there’s a bit of text that tells you precisely what you have to do to get started with the application: “Drop .torrent files here to start downloading!”. So download a .torrent file, drop it onto Torrent2exe’s interface, and the download will start automatically. The torrent download will be displayed on the application’s interface (including download speed, remaining time, and seeds).

There are two other ways to start downloading a torrent. The first one would be to use the Add Download or Add Download from Web options from the File menu. The second one would be to choose the “Open With Torret2Exe” option when selecting a torrent in your Firefox browser.

As expected from a BitTorrent client, Torrent2exe lets you set download and upload speed limits, remove the torrent, and remove torrent plus downloaded data. As mentioned above, while the torrent download is running, you can view the number of available peers and seeds, view the upload and download speed, see how much data has been downloaded, and check an estimate about how much time is left until the download completes.

Besides letting you download torrents, Torrent2exe lets you create torrents. And it also provides access to a means of turning torrents into executables (the executable will have the torrent built into it). From the Tools menu, select the Convert Torrent to EXE option and you will be directed to torrent2exe.com where you can turn a torrent into an executable.
